CEC Chair, Public Defender discuss upcoming elections

The Head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) and Public Defender Levan Ioseliani on Monday discussed “the importance of providing a peaceful and free election environment for the upcoming October elections.”

According to the CEC press office, Giorgi Kalandarishvili informed the Ombudsman of information on how the election administration is preparing for the October 26 elections.

“In recent years, there has been a tendency of increasing pressure on election administrators, but a healthy election environment consists of performing activities in a calm and free setting.

We spoke about all of the situations that the election administration had uncovered in the past. We discussed the establishment of the communication channel, which guarantees, on the one hand, the prevention of such occurrences,” Kalandarishvili stated.

Levan Ioseliani deemed that meeting “paramount” as the elections are approaching “and the Office of the Public Defender must coordinate with the CEC so that we have the opportunity to respond promptly to the alleged rights violations that may arise.”

“The citizens should have complete information about the new technologies that will be used for elections, and we have shared our vision in this regard,” Ioseliani noted.
