CEC Chair meets President to discuss overseas voting procedures

Recently, there have been manipulative statements regarding the participation of our compatriots living abroad in the elections,” stated the Chair of the Central Election Commission (CEC), Giorgi Kalandarishvili.

He stated that the purpose of his today’s meeting with the President was to provide detailed information on the issue’s actual experience.

“Our institution is committed to strictly enforcing the law, ensuring our compatriots abroad are well-informed about procedures and rules for election participation. The election administration, with relevant agencies, ensures proper procedures. All parties must provide accurate information to our compatriots, avoiding false expectations.

Recently, there have been manipulative statements and assessments regarding our compatriots’ participation in the elections, leading to incorrect perceptions on the issue. The meeting aimed to provide information on legal and practical enforcement experiences,” Kalandarishvili emphasized.

Kalandarishvili explained that consular registration is essential for creating a polling station along with the number of voters. If registrations fall within defined limits (50-3,000 persons), the CEC is informed and polling stations are established.

“In my 16 years at the CEC, not once has the CEC refused to create a polling station based on this information. After elections are scheduled, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs provides data, and the CEC ensures precinct creation one month before elections,” Kalandarishvili concluded.
