CEC calls on interested stakeholders not to mislead Georgians living abroad

Press Speaker of the Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC), Natia Ioseliani called on interested stakeholders not to mislead the Georgian citizens living abroad about their participation in the 2024 parliamentary elections.

At the briefing, Natia Ioseliani said much disinformation had been spread lately over the issue and clarified the procedures as per the legislation.

The CEC Press Speaker rejected the allegations that the election administration refuses to open polling stations abroad and attempts to redirect responsibility to the Foreign Ministry or other state institutions.

“We will use all the available mechanisms to ensure that voters abroad can participate in the elections. However, this requires them to follow the procedures prescribed by law. One of the main priorities of the election administration is to inform voters promptly so that voters abroad or in Georgia receive exactly the information they need to participate in the elections,” she said.

Natia Ioseliani went on to say that the CEC planned to carry out a large-scale information campaign on the voting procedures. She also urged Georgian citizens living abroad to use reliable sources for verified information.

“Elections are a common endeavor and everyone has their share of responsibility in implementing this process in line with international standards,” she stated.
