The candidate status for Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova remains a priority, said Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, ahead of the special meeting of the European Council taking place on 30 May in Brussels.

“For us, as we have stated, candidate status for Ukraine, also for Georgia and Moldova, remains a priority. Otherwise, what the message we have been or are sending to the people of those countries be.

We have seen that Ukraine has responded to the questionnaire with lightning speed. It is that lightning speed we expect the EU to take the next steps. The European Parliament will do everything that it can within our institutional power. I have a full mandate to say that,” Roberta Metsola noted.
