British Embassy concern over failed talks between gov't, opposition

The British Embassy in Tbilisi deeply regrets that the government of Georgia and the opposition failed to come to a negotiated agreement during EU mediated talks.

The Embassy believes this is a missed opportunity that would delay the advancement of Euro-Atlantic integration.

“We urge progress on judicial and electoral reforms, and continued dialogue,” the Embassy tweeted on Wednesday.

The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party and the opposition could not agree on a solution, Christian Danielsson briefed reporters following the hours-long joint meeting between GD and the opposition on Tuesday. Danielsson said he proposed a solution that puts the country’s interest first, but none of the political parties could agree to it.
