Georgian National Botanic Garden will host the traditional Bread Festival on October 17-18, the Tbilisi City Hall announced.

The festival will be dedicated to promoting the centuries-old history of Georgian wheat, bread-baking traditions, and cultural heritage. Bread-making companies will participate and present their products.

According to Tbilisi City Hall, the festival won the highest Gold Award at the international Acanthus Prize competition this year in the “Public Engagement, Education, and Awareness Raising” category. The European Route of Historic Gardens (ERHG) awards the prize.

Bread producers and bakeries will showcase a diverse array of products, while master classes in bread-making and a musical program will be offered to the guests. Viewers will see illustrations of endemic spices and become familiar with old traditions of bread-making.

The festival aims to support local entrepreneurs and small-sized businesses, protect agriculture and pass on traditional knowledge to future generations.

Tbilisi City Hall, the Georgian National Agency for Cultural Heritage Preservation and the Union of Wheat Producers of Georgia are among the supporters of the event.
