Border Police Helicopter rescues three climbers from Shchelda Peak

The rescuers from the Emergency Management Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs successfully transported three alpinists from the peak of Shchelda to Mestia using a border police helicopter.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that one of the climbers died probably due to a lightning strike. With deteriorating weather conditions, the remaining three climbers were unable to move and requested rescue assistance.

Upon receiving the notification, a rescue operation was launched involving the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ border police helicopter and fire-rescue teams from the Samegrelo-Zemo-Svaneti fire-rescue department.

The search for the body of the deceased climber is ongoing.
