Border, customs control in Georgia at highest level, Economy Minister says

Georgian Economy Minister Levan Davitashvili stressed Wednesday that the border and customs control in Georgia are “at the highest level.”

The Minister pledged the government to be open “to any interested country to see for themselves how the system works and be assured that all allegations are baseless”.

The remark came after the allegations of Ukrainian authorities on Russia smuggling sanctioned products via Georgian territory.

“I think our strategic friends, brothers, should be more attentive and respectful. They should present facts when make statement. Not only the Georgian society, but also the international community will wait for concrete evidence,” Davitashvili asserted.

Levan Davitashvili stated that these allegations were “an insult to the Georgian state and Georgians.”
