Bidzina and Ekaterine Ivanishvili have expressed their heartfelt condolences following the passing of renowned film director Eldar Shengelaia, emphasising that his death is a profound loss not only for Georgian cinema but for the entire nation.

“We express our deep sorrow over the loss of the legendary Georgian filmmaker Eldar Shengelaia,” the Ivanishvilis [founder of the Georgian Dream ruling party and his spouse] stated.

“Eldar Shengelaia enriched and diversified Georgian art with his extraordinary creativity, leaving an indelible imprint on the hearts and minds of our people. His passing represents a significant loss for our cultural heritage and our country as a whole. We extend our sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his family, friends, colleagues, and to all of Georgian society,” the message, published on the Georgian Dream Facebook page, read.
