Batumi Oil Terminal resumes aviation kerosene transhipment after eight-year hiatus

In July 2026, the Batumi Oil Terminal, a Georgian asset owned by JSC KazTransOil, resumed the aviation kerosene transhipment after an eight-year hiatus. The facility has now become a pivotal hub for supplying aviation fuel from Europe to Kazakhstan via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (the Middle Corridor), according to an official statement by the Batumi Oil Terminal.

The statement notes that the terminal has commenced handling JET A-1 aviation kerosene produced by European oil refineries, thereby expanding the nomenclature of its transhipped cargoes.

“The first batch of aviation kerosene, totalling 10,000 tonnes, was delivered to the Batumi Oil Terminal by sea across the Black Sea,” the Batumi Oil Terminal statement read.

“The cargo is currently stored at the terminal, awaiting the arrival of railway tank cars for subsequent dispatch to the Republic of Kazakhstan.

JET A-1 aviation kerosene is one of the primary fuel types for civil aviation, ensuring the reliable operation of aircraft and the seamless execution of air passenger and cargo transport. Securing a stable supply of aviation fuel to the Republic of Kazakhstan is of paramount importance for the development of the transport sector, increasing mobility, and strengthening the nation’s energy security.

The resumption of JET A-1 aviation kerosene transhipment expands the logistical capabilities of the Batumi Oil Terminal, fosters the development of freight transport along the Middle Corridor, increases the resilience of international supply chains, and reinforces the transit potential of the JSC KazTransOil group of companies.

The Batumi Oil Terminal is a specialised facility that, in addition to aviation kerosene, handles crude oil, fuel oil, diesel, motor petrol, various grades of kerosene, liquefied petroleum gases (LPG), and other liquid petroleum cargoes. Based on the results of the first half of 2026, the volume of liquid petroleum cargo transhipped at the Batumi Oil Terminal reached approximately 725,000 tonnes,” the Batumi Oil Terminal statement concluded.
