Basketball national team Captain Shengelia and Shermadini nominated for Order of Excellence

“We have decided to nominate our basketball players and entire team members for the highest state awards,” announced Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at the Cabinet meeting.

According to the Head of government, Captain Tornike Shengelia and Giorgi Shermadini, who have achieved exceptional results, will be nominated for the Order of Excellence.

“Our basketball players have made us proud by qualifying for EuroBasket, the European Championship, for the sixth consecutive time. Of course, it’s important to recognize this success properly. In this regard, as you know, after consultations with the President of Georgia, we decided to nominate our basketball players and the entire team members for the highest state awards.

Members of our national basketball team, federation leaders, and first and foremost, of course, the players will be nominated for the Order of Honour. We have distinguished two players, Captain Tornike Shengelia and Giorgi Shermadini, who have achieved exceptional results and will be nominated for the Order of Excellence. I want to congratulate all of them on these awards. The award ceremony will take place soon,” stated Irakli Kobakhidze.

As a reminder, for the first time in Georgia’s history, in recognition of qualifying for the Basketball World Cup, reaching the world’s top 16 national teams, and earning the opportunity to compete in the European Championship for the sixth time, the Prime Minister and Parliament Chairman have nominated the members of Georgia’s men’s national basketball team for the Order of Honour.
