Based on results of almost 100% of precincts, Salome Zurabishvili gets 38.63% of votes, while Grigol Vashadze - 37.74%
Central Election Commission has already counted 3692 + 11 out of 3705 election precincts (99.95% of the total number of all election precincts).
According to the data, Salome Zurabishvili received 615 403 votes (38.63 percent), while Grigol Vashadze – 601 175 (37.74 percent).
Davit Bakradze is on the third place with 174 699 votes, which is 10.97 percent of the total number of votes.
The rest candidates received less than 4% of votes.
Tamar Zhvania, Chairperson of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Georgia stated at the briefing that elections went largely in a peaceful environment at electoral precincts and no major incidents took place except certain procedural violations and the majority of them were timely handled on the spot by the EA. “Though, any fact or issue is being discussed by the administration within the terms defined by the law and certainly will have a relevant response in the future as well” – she added.
“The total number of voters amounted to 3 518 877 including persons registered for elections abroad, as well as, 14 795 citizens registered abroad according to Georgian legislation.
As of October 28 20:00, 1 637 956 voters participated in the polling which amounts to 46, 74% of the total number of voters”, – stated Tamar Zhvania.
A presidential candidate needs 50%+1 votes for winning. If a candidate does not collect the needed number of votes, the second round of elections will be appointed. Two candidates, who showed the best results in the first round, will participate in the second tour of the elections.
The Georgian Central Election Commission (CEC) will appoint the date of the second round of elections. The candidate, who receives more votes in the second round, will become president of Georgia.
