Badri Japaridze: EP resolution results from GD and Bidzina Ivanishvili's destructive acts
Badri Japaridze, leader of the ‘Lelo’ opposition party, described the European Parliament’s resolution as “the most severe, most acute resolution on the current situation in Georgia that we have not seen before.”
The resolution, he claims, stems from the Georgian Dream and Bidzina Ivanishvili’s “anti-state, destructive acts.”
“The Georgian Dream and Bidzina Ivanishvili’s destructive actions have led to this outcome.”
The European Parliament urges all member states not to recognise the present de facto administration, referring to it as a self-proclaimed government with self-appointed personnel.
It urges on EU member states to employ all available bilateral sanctions mechanisms and endorses the bilateral sanctions adopted by Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the Czech Republic, while also addressing what poses the greatest threat to our country. These are the greatest benefits that the Georgian people have obtained at the cost of their labor and blood – rapprochement with the European Union, free trade, visa-free travel. All of this has been put at risk by the Georgian Dream, and this is precisely what is reflected in the resolution.
If Ivanishvili does not call new elections, if there is no agreement that these elections will be held in a free and fair environment, then the European Parliament will call on EU member States to consider revoking the great benefits that our people have so cherished.
We must succeed in forcing the Georgian Dream to fulfill the demand set out in this resolution to call new elections,” Japaridze noted.
