Azerbaijani President hints at chances for consultations between Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Monday said there was a “chance to hold consultations” between Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia, claiming his government to be ready to kick off this format today, if Armenia is ready.

“We have already shared five basic principles [for a deal] with Armenia and we hope that Armenia will demonstrate political will, start peace talks and sign a peace agreement with Azerbaijan. If this occurs, peace will be restored in the South Caucasus, and new chances for collaboration will emerge,” Aliyev stated during a joint press point with Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili.

Aliyev stated in his speech that the Karabakh war produced a new reality. “I briefed the Georgian Prime Minister about the current peace discussions between Azerbaijan and Armenia, and we feel that the signature of the peace accord is required for conflict settlement.”

Ilham Aliyev has arrived in Georgian capital Tbilisi this morning for a working visit.

After viewing the Heritage of Karabakh Khanate exhibition at Château Mukhrani, Mtskheta Municipality, Aliyev and PM Garibashvili have made press statements.
