Azerbaijan FM: Discussed strategic cooperation and regional projects with Georgian FM
“A high-level relationship between Georgia and Azerbaijan is important, and such a close relationship is multifaceted and intensively implemented,” said Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jeyhun Bayramov, during a joint press conference with his Georgian counterpart, Ilia Darchiashvili, in Tbilisi.
Bayramov highlighted that the meeting agenda included conducting political dialogue and maintaining close relations at the international level with organizations such as the United Nations and OSCE.
He also noted that economic cooperation was a significant focus of the meeting, mentioning that trade turnover between the two countries increased by 15% last year.
“The topic of our conversation today was a project with the greatest potential – the green energy corridor project involving Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary. This is an important project of the 21st century. The production of alternative energy and its supply to Europe is crucial in terms of addressing climate change, which is a major global concern and serves the interest of many countries,” Bayramov stated.
He emphasized that Georgia and Azerbaijan traditionally collaborate in key strategic areas, one of which is transport and communication.
“While discussing these issues, we focused on increasing the potential of the Middle Corridor and enhancing the cargo transportation capacity of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway through Georgia. It was also noted that with the participation of regional countries – Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey – we have established an important platform for joint activities in the field of transport. A special road map has already been adopted, and a meeting is scheduled to be held in Turkey in the near future to evaluate the progress of these efforts,” the minister concluded.
