Anti-Namakhvani HPP protesters plan to rally overnight, Economy Minister offers public discussions
The anti-Namakhvani HPP construction protest is ongoing on the central square of Kutaisi. According to the organizer of the rally, Varlam Goletiani, the participants will stay in the streets overnight. He said organizational details had already been agreed upon with the patrol police. Goletiani called on the protesters to calm down. The protesters will march to Gumati early on April 15.

At the same time, Economy Minister Natia Turnava urges dialogue and peaceful business communication have no alternative. Escalation should not be allowed. Turnava stressed the concessions made by the investor company and delayed the construction of the dam and reservoir.
According to Turnava, government agencies are making every effort to establish a dialogue with the most categoric group.
“We plan to make all discussions related to Namakhvani HPP public these days. Let’s discuss and, if any improvement is needed, let’s improve it,” Natia Turnava said.
Anti-Namakhvani HPP protesters have been holding rallies for several months. Protesters demand the Economy Minister’s resignation and direct involvement of PM Irakli Garibashvili in the negotiation process.
