Anti-corruption bureau to recognize person as oligarch instead of gov’t
The Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee is reviewing amendments to the de-oligarchization draft law, which instead of the government, gives the anti-corruption bureau authority to recognize the person as an oligarch.
The Venice Commission advised that the classification of a person as an oligarch not be politicized, according to Committee Chair Anri Okhanashvili.
“We suggest giving the anti-corruption agency, which was established as part of the 12-point plan, authority to determine who qualifies as an oligarch instead of the Georgian government. As a result, this subject would be entirely depoliticized,” he stated.
