The General Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia (POG) ruled to return land plots unlawfully confiscated by the government in 2009-2010 (United National Movement government) to the residents of Anaklia in western Georgia.

POG said on Thursday that the then Economy Ministry made this illegal decision after the Anaklia Port investor got in trouble with land acquisition. Locals rebuffed to give up their properties until appropriate compensation.

In a bid to simplify the process for the investor, in 2009-2010, high-ranking officials breached the property rights drawing a faulty cadastral plan with over 2000 hectares listed in state ownership. POG noted that those officials who plotted the scheme would face justice.

A total of 418 people suffered from government-led illegal actions. POG reported that 303 Anaklia residents would return their lots worth GEL 57,800,000.
