Amy W. Diaz appointed US Chargé d’Affaires to Georgia

Amy W. Diaz will assume the duties of US Chargé d’Affaires to Georgia, according to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Tbilisi.

“Amy W. Diaz, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, assumed the position of Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., at US Embassy Tbilisi, Georgia, in July 2026.

Ms Diaz’s previous assignments include Chargé d’Affaires, a.i., and Deputy Chief of Mission at US Embassy Lilongwe (Malawi); Deputy Director of the Department of State’s Office of Policy and Global Issues for Europe; Consular Section Chief at US Embassy Harare (Zimbabwe); and head of US Embassy Kabul’s Counternarcotics Team (Afghanistan).

Her career experience also includes serving as Rule of Law Advisor and Summit of the Americas Coordinator at the US Embassy in Panama; Head of the Internal Political Unit at the US Embassy in Tbilisi; Vice-Consul at the US Embassy in Harare; and Vice-Consul at the US Consulate General in Monterrey (Mexico).

Ms Diaz joined the US State Department in 2002 under the Presidential Management Fellow Programme, becoming a career member of the US Foreign Service in 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. John’s College (Annapolis, Maryland) and earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arizona.

Ms Diaz is the recipient of numerous Superior and Meritorious Honour Awards from the US Department of State. She is married with one child,” stated the official release from the US Embassy in Georgia.

Before this appointment, the role of US Chargé d’Affaires in Georgia was held by Alan Purcell.
