Amendments to be made to Law "On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons"

The Public Service Development Agency of Georgia will be allowed to obtain the information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) in written form or online when reviewing residence permits or expulsion of foreign nationals based on amendments to be made to the Law “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons.”

The proposed amendments will be initiated today. The draft reads that the method will facilitate the procedure of issuing residence permits.

The amendments clarify who can obtain residence permits. Also, based on the draft, granting work residence permits will be possible to those individuals who carry out activities in Georgia that are not covered by the Law on Labor Migration.

The draft defines that to obtain a work residence permit, such an individual should submit to the Public Service Development Agency relevant documentation confirming that they meet the criteria for entrepreneurial or labor activity specified by the resolution of the Government of Georgia.
