Ambassador Rotundu: Romania supports granting of EU candidate status to Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia

Romanian Ambassador to Georgia Răzvan Rotundu has attended the rally at Europe Square a day before the announcement of European Commission’s recommendations on EU candidate status for Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia.

Răzvan Rotundu believes “this is a good opportunity for them to show that this is their intention to join the EU.”

“Romania supports the granting of candidate status to all the three countries [Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia]. Following that, the negotiations will take place in accordance with development of reforms,” he asserted.

European Commission (EC) is set to make a recommendation on EU candidate status for Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia to EU states on 17 June, with the final decision taking place on 23 to 24 June.

The citizens gathered at Europe Square after Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili called for a public rally to express their support for Georgia’s EU aspirations.

The rally is joined by the Ambassadors from the European Union, the United States, Germany, France, Lithuania, Estonia and Bulgaria.
