Ambassador Degnan: US strongly supports Georgia to establish independent, impartial judiciary
The Georgian Bar Association plays a very important role in the Georgian judicial system, ensuring and promoting the integrity and professionalism of attorneys throughout the country, US Ambassador to Georgia Kelly Degnan said at the opening of Lawyers’ House, the new office of the Georgian Bar Association.
According to Ambassador, real progress has been made in relation to judicial reform over the last decades.
“The United States has been strongly supporting Georgia for many years as it works to establish an independent, impartial judiciary. The Georgian Bar Association plays a very important role in the Georgian judicial system, ensuring and promoting the integrity and professionalism of attorneys throughout the country. The Georgia Bar Association also plays an important role in helping the public better understand why impartial and independent justice and professional justice are so important to administrate justice in Georgia, as well as for Georgia’s strong democracy.
Some real progress has been made in judicial reform over the last decades, and we are very proud to have worked with the Georgia Bar Association since 2005 in developing the rules, ethical rules and various legal practices that ensure professionalism in the legal profession. We are delighted to be here and support the development of the Georgian Bar Association. Being here today shows how much progress the Georgia Bar Association has made as an independent, self-regulating entity,” Kelly Degnan stated.
