Ali Asadov highlights joint efforts for Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway’s increased freight capacity

“The importance of joint efforts for the full operation of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway must be particularly emphasized. Thanks to additional investments from Azerbaijan and the efforts made by Georgia, the freight transport capacity has increased from one million to five million tons,” said Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov during the opening of the 10th session of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation between Georgia and Azerbaijan.

He also stated that this railway is an integral part of the Middle Corridor.

“The Baku International Trade Port, one of the largest trading ports on the Caspian Sea, plays a significant role in the Middle Corridor. Currently, active work is underway to increase the port’s annual freight capacity from 15 million to 25 million tons.

The ports of Poti and Batumi in Georgia are also essential components of the Middle Corridor. We are very pleased that the relevant agencies will sign today a memorandum for cooperation in the transport corridor sector. All of this strengthens the roles of Azerbaijan and Georgia in intercontinental transactions, as they serve as crucial transit links,” said Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister.
