ADB President pledges continued cooperation with Georgia, acknowledges its key role in Middle Corridor

“As Asia and Pacific Climate Bank, ADB strongly supports CAREC members, including Georgia, in their collective action on climate change, mitigation and adaptation,” Masatsugu Asakawa, President of the Asian Development Bank, addressed the ministerial meeting of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC).

“We have worked closely with the CAREC program for almost two decades, 20 years. These new initiatives are needed, and we are ready to support them. Actually, the regional cooperation initiative is at the heart of our charter. It’s one of the main objectives and purposes of our operations everywhere. We would like to support these activities in this high endeavour.

We are also committed to continuing our close cooperation with Georgia as it enhances its social services and expands transport networks. It’s really difficult not to recognize Georgia’s key role in the development of the Middle Corridor.

Finally, I want to say that I have had a wonderful experience in Tbilisi so far, and I look forward to returning next May when Georgia hosts the ADB annual meeting,” the ADB President stated.

Tbilisi hosts the 22nd ministerial meeting of the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation Program (CAREC). The annual event serves as CAREC’s high-level strategy development and policy body.
