Acting U.S. Ambassador pays tribute to April 9 victims
Acting U.S. Ambassador Alan Purcell paid tribute to those who lost their lives during the April 9, 1989 tragedy.
According to a statement shared by the U.S. Embassy in Georgia on social media, Purcell visited the April 9 Memorial in Tbilisi.
“On April 9, we remember the atrocities committed by the Soviet army in 1989. Today, 37 years later, we honor the 21 Georgians who died and the hundreds who were injured while peacefully demonstrating for Georgia’s freedom,” the embassy said in a Facebook post.
This year marks 37 years since the April 9 tragedy.
