Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Government Chair meets Ecumenical Patriarch

Chairman of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Government, Giorgi Jincharadze, met with Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople in Istanbul.

During the meeting, Bartholomew I reaffirmed support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and pledged support for the population affected by the conflict.

Giorgi Jincharadze focused on the humanitarian needs of IDPs and the protection of Orthodox churches and cultural monuments located across the territory of the occupied Abkhazia region.

The Head of the Abkhazian government thanked the Ecumenical Patriarch for the attention and support shown over the years to displaced children, and also expressed gratitude for hosting children forcibly displaced from Abkhazia at the international summer camp held on Kınalıada, an island in the Sea of Marmara.

Head of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic administration Giorgi Sutidze and Georgia’s General Consul in Istanbul Aleksandre Jishkariani attended the meeting.

The international summer camp is held annually, organized by the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic government with the support of the Ecumenical Patriarch.
