Abkhaz Orthodox Church refuses to accept icon donated by Alliance of Patriots of Georgia

The Abkhaz Orthodox Church has refused to accept an icon donated by the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia.

The Sokhumi-Abkhazia Eparchy released the statement today saying “the Abkhaz Orthodox Church was not aware of the visit of the Georgian opposition party leader Irma Inashvili and refuses to accept the icon.”

“Such actions are unacceptable until the recognition of the Abkhaz Orthodox Church as well as the independence of Abkhazia,” reads the statement.

The leader of the Alliance of Patriots of Georgia Irma Inashvili paid a visit to Georgia’s Russia-occupied Abkhazia region on August 18 and donated an icon of the Virgin Mary to the Ilori Church of St. George in Ochamchire district.
