A larger dredger ship of Jan De Nul company to enter Anaklia at the end of August

Another large dredger ship of the Belgian company Jan De Nul will enter the Anaklia Deep Sea Port at the end of August, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development announced.

Deputy Minister of Economy Tamar Ioseliani and Anaklia Port Director Zurab Sichinava inspected the ongoing construction works of Anaklia on Wednesday.

In the first stage, the Tristao Da Cunha vessel will deepen the seabed by approximately three meters along a section of the breakwater spanning roughly one kilometre; these works will take about a month, after which the main dredging of the port’s water area will begin. A larger ship, Al-Idrisi, will enter the port at the end of August to deepen the seabed to 17.5 meters.

These parameters ensure the safe reception of high-capacity container ships operating in the Black Sea, including Panamax and Post-Panamax class vessels.

According to the Ministry of Economy, construction works on the Anaklia deep-sea port are proceeding according to schedule.

The Georgian government will construct Anaklia Deep Sea Port using the “Landlord” model. Under this framework, the state will remain the sole proprietor of the core marine and port infrastructure.

The ‘landlord’ model will enable the state to develop Anaklia Port in partnership with multiple nations and companies to create optimal conditions for attracting cargo to the port and, consequently, ensuring its maximum operational efficiency.

Alongside developing the port infrastructure, the state will guarantee the construction of road and rail links to Anaklia.

“The development of Anaklia Deep Sea Port is a project of strategic importance for Georgia; it enhances the country’s transit capabilities, strengthens its role in the international transport network, and serves Georgia’s long-term economic and national interests,” the Ministry said.
