One person has died, and eight more sustained injuries in a coal mine explosion in Tkibuli, western Georgia, early on January 31.
Injured miners have been admitted to Khechinashvili University Hospital in the capital of Tbilisi. Three of them remain in the intensive care unit; one miner is in critical condition, he has 60% burns and thermal damage, said Guga Kashibadze, the Head of Tbilisi Burns Center.
Ministry of Internal Affairs said it launched a probe under Article 240 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, involving a breach of safety regulations during mining and construction works.
The company’s management told GPB First Channel that its labour safety service is studying the exact cause of the accident.
