Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili said the early election is a red line for the ruling Georgian Dream party. This issue will not be discussed during the negotiations.
“The ruling team acted and will act in the country interests instead of private whims or interests of particular parties,” PM stated.
Prime Minister also commented on the case of the Chairman of the United National Movement (UNM) party Nika Melia. The issue has been put on the negotiations agenda by the opposition. “We will not interfere in the enforcement of the law. Melia and his family or party members have the full possibility to pay the bail at any time. Nika Melia can be released from prison until the final ruling is made into his case,” Irakli Gharibashvili said.
The opposition demanded early elections and the release of UNM’s Melia during talks with the government. Georgian PM Irakli Garibashvili and opposition politicians held a meeting mediated by European Council President Charles Michel at the presidential palace late at night on Monday.
