PM claims no time to waste on unproductive negotiations, thanks EU mediators
“The representatives of the opposition had neither the courage nor the wisdom to renounce the unsubstantiated claims and sign the document”, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili stated at the government meeting on Thursday.
According to PM, the ruling party will no more waste time on unproductive negotiations.
“The document, drafted by Christian Danielsson, did not even mention early elections. The majority of the Georgian people and the whole western world recognize the results of the parliamentary elections. There are no questions about their legitimacy.
The radical opposition does not try to overcome the deadlock. It had neither the courage nor the wisdom to renounce unsubstantiated claims and sign the document.
We reserve the right not to waste any more time discussing these whims. We will focus entirely on the problems of concern for our people and the country. We do not have time to waste on unproductive negotiations,” Prime Minister stated.
Garibashvili notes that the ruling team had a compromising position about the document submitted by the mediator. “Our team did its best to reach an agreement, but the radical opposition failed. The opposition members focused on disrupting the negotiations,” he added.
The Prime Minister thanks the European Union for its efforts in the ongoing negotiations. “We are grateful for the great personal efforts of our friends, the EU institutions, Mr Christian Danielsson and Mr Charles Michel. Although no agreement reached through the negotiations, the process was an important experience for everyone,” PM said.
The ruling Georgian Dream (GD) party and the opposition could not agree on a solution, Christian Danielsson briefed reporters following the hours-long joint meeting between GD and the opposition on Tuesday. Danielsson said he proposed a solution that puts the country’s interest first, but none of the political parties could agree to it.
