Opposition politicians comment on imprisonment ruling for UNM Chair
Opposition politicians gathered at the United National Movement (UNM) Party central office commented on the imprisonment ruling for Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) Party.
Mamuka Khazaradze, Leader of the Lelo for Georgia Party said that the government acted “to win hearts of Georgia’s enemies.”
“The case does not have to do with the court judgment made against Nika Melia. The decision concerns reversal of the country’s orientation, losing freedom, elections forging, halting Anaklia project, poverty, unemployment, corruption and nepotism, erasing Georgia from the map of international, democratic and civil world. The country must be rescued, otherwise we will soon wake up in the Soviet Union,” Mamuka Khazaradze stated.
Leader of the United Georgia Party Nino Burjanadze said that Nika Melia is a symbol of a person’s unjust oppression.
“We witnessed the enslaved parliament. We have a slave president; we have the court and prosecutor’s office with slavery faithfulness and obedience. Georgian people will not reconcile with slavery,” Burjanadze claimed.
According to Shalva Natelashvili, Labor Party Leader, the court ruling in Nika Melia’s case is the verdict made against all Georgians who want to see the country “restored, prosperous, and pulled out occupants.”
