Today one person stands between them and the restoration of justice and the television founded by them and this person is not Kibar Khalvashi. We reiterate that the justice will be restored only when “Rustavi 2” will return to its founders, – Jarji Akimidze and Davit Dvali, founders of Rustavi 2 TV have released a statement today.

As the statement notes, they believe that Rustavi 2 should be freed from political party influences in order to restore the function of a critical and impartial watchdog, the function of “4th branch of government”.

“Today, the events around Rustavi 2 and the current political situation can radically change the media environment in Georgia.

In a country, where we do not have the mechanism of power-sharing, unhealthy processes are ongoing in the judiciary system and infiltration of Russian hostile forces can be seen in every sphere, we consider that it is vitally important to free Rustavi 2 of political party influences in order to help the channel to restore the function of a critical and impartial watchdog.

We will continue to fight for justice – the state is obliged to protect our rights which were grossly violated.
