The Georgian government members have expressed solidarity with Ukraine and condemned Russia’s military aggression.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili called on the international community to apply all possible measures to stop violation of international order by Russia.
“We stand with Ukraine. The military attack on a sovereign country is unacceptable. We call on the international community to apply all possible measures to stop blatant violation of international order by Russia and avoid further military escalation” PM wrote on Twitter.
President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili expressed solidarity to Ukraine, adding that ‘Georgian nation shocked by the Russian aggression in Ukraine’.
“Georgian nation shocked by the Russian aggression in Ukraine. We stand in solidarity with the Ukrainian people and call for a halt of the military operations. SlavaUkraini (Glory to Ukraine)!”, the President wrote on Twitter.
“We stand with Ukraine in these difficult times,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili echoed the developments in Ukraine on Twitter.
“Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine could not be avoided. We once again call on the international community to make effective and firm steps to stop Russia escalating into a full-scale conflict and ensure the protection of international norms. We stand with Ukraine in these difficult times”, Papuashvili stated.
“Military aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine is totally intolerable. We stand with Ukraine and call on our international partners to give a strict response to the violation of international law by Russia and ensure the de-escalation of the situation”, Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Zalkaliani tweeted.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation in Donbas on Thursday. Missile strikes and explosions have been reported in several parts of Ukraine, including Kyiv. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared martial law.
