As soon as the new parliament convenes, the parliamentary majority will initiate the establishment of a temporary commission of inquiry into the 2020 parliamentary elections, Irakli Kobakhidze, Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, said at a briefing at the party office.

According to him, all interested parties, including independent experts, non-governmental organizations, and international partners, will be invited to participate in the work of the commission.

Naturally, the parliamentary parties will involve in the work of this commission. The commission would provide a comprehensive assessment of the elections using a variety of tools, including large-scale recounting of votes. If there is even one percent, we emphasize, even a one percent partiality in favor of the Georgian, the ruling party will call early elections. Moreover, as the Head of the Georgian Dream election HQ, I responsibly declare that I will leave completely withdraw from political activities if this happens, Kobakhidze said.

The Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream also said that the Georgian Dream takes responsibility for large-scale electoral reform, no matter what the outcome of the talks. He also added that the negotiation process with the facilitation of the US and EU Ambassadors to Georgia continues. Georgian Dream will do its best to facilitate the successful completion of this process.

The ruling party representatives also touched upon the MP mandate issue, saying the parliamentary majority will terminate the mandates to all MPs who do not or fail to oppose the sabotage scenario of the radical leaders and submit a relevant request to the parliament. Also, parties that do not enter the parliament would get no state funding and other benefits.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, some political parties are interested in sabotage. The Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream believes that some debutant political parties are positive about Georgia Dream’s initiatives. It is noteworthy, Kobakhidze added, the United National Movement and European Georgia, whose leaders are the creators of the history of election fraud in Georgia, opposed our proposal the most. It is because they are best aware that election verification would confirm the fair conduct of the elections.

If the parties that are part of sabotage are giving up their seats, it is very good, Kobakhidze added.

The Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream party addressed the fact that the former President of Georgia and current Head of the Executive Committee of the National Reforms Council of Ukraine, Mikheil Saakashvili, was intensively involved in the election activities in Georgia.

Mikheil Saakashvili is the main source of polarization in Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze declared at the press briefing.

He still manages to create problems for our country with the money stolen from the people and three TV stations financed by the same money, Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream said. Saakashvili engaged the election process in violation of the law. The ruling party would initiate a bill in the Parliament of 10th Convocation to abolish election registration for the political parties, which leaders do not meet the constitutional election criteria, Kobakhidze said.

According to the GD representative, the last round of negotiations between the political parties over the October 31 parliamentary elections will be held on December 10. The first session of the 10th Convocation Parliament is scheduled for Friday, December 11.
