Zurab Pololikashvili: Georgia’s tourism potential highlighted in over 50 countries on World Tourism Day
Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary General of the UN World Tourism Organization, said the World Tourism Day event held in Georgia, attracted high-level guests and garnered significant attention from international media. Pololikashvili’s remarks were shared by the National Tourism Administration.
“We have over 50 high-level delegations, including ministers and influential representatives from the private sector in the tourism industry. The event has been extensively covered by international media in more than 50 countries. This exposure means that Georgia’s tourism potential is now visible in these countries. Many ministers are visiting Georgia for the first time, and they plan to return. I am very grateful to the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the National Tourism Administration for organizing the event at such a high level,” Pololikashvili said.
He emphasized that World Tourism Day is a significant occasion for the global tourism sector. “This is one of the most important events for the tourism industry, celebrated annually on September 27 in different regions on a rotating basis. This year, it was Europe’s turn, and last year, the General Assembly decided to host it in Georgia. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Tourism and Peace,’ chosen well in advance,” he added.
The World Tourism Day event was officially opened by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze. The event attracted more than 300 delegates, including high-ranking officials, tourism ministers, department heads, and industry professionals from numerous countries.
