Witness testifies against Megis Kardava, accusing him of torture, inhumane treatment
Kutaisi City Court on Friday held a hearing into Megis Kardava’s case.
One of the witnesses, Bela Rogava, testified against Kardava, accusing him of torture and inhumane treatment.
During the trial, she recalled the events in 2009 when she was pregnant and Magis Kardava insisted she confess to a crime she did not commit.
“He [Kardava] was telling me to name my accomplices. Then Magis Kardava ordered Erkvania to leave the room and leave me alone.
He questioned why I didn’t sign all of this, and I informed him that the testimony didn’t belong to me, for which he punched me and smacked me in the face.
He left the room, returned 10 minutes later in an unacceptable manner, with red eyes, sat in front of me, insulted me, and then beat me again, which I resisted.
He pulled my hair, put a gun to my teeth, forced my mouth open, breaking my tooth, and they swallowed me with the liquid,” Rogava explained.
Megis Kardava, the former chief of Georgia’s Ministry of Defense’s Military Police Department, was detained in Ukraine on November 1, 2017, after being indicted and convicted in 11 criminal cases in Georgia. On September 17, 2021, he was extradited from Ukraine.
Megis Kardava served in several high-level roles in law enforcement organisations from 2006 until 2012.
