Winter Olympic opens - Most important winter sports event on First and Second Channels
From 9th to 25th of February, airtime of the First and Second channels will be mostly allocated for the 23rd Winter Olympic Games.
The best sportsmen from 92 countries will gather in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The First and Second Channel of Georgian Public Broadcaster will air competitions in 15 sports types of winter.
Competitions will be held in two cities of Korea. Pyongyang’s mountain ski resort Alpensia will be a central venue where the tournaments will take place in the following sports disciplines: Alpine skiing, Ski jumping, Luge, Skeleton, Biathlon and others. The neighboring town of Gangneung will mainly host those species, which are held in the hall – hockey, curling, skating, short track speed skating and figure skating.
The opening and closing ceremonies will be held at 35,000-seat Pyeongchang Olympic Stadium.
The 2018 Winter Olympics will feature 102 events in 15 sports, making it the first Winter Olympics to surpass 100 medal events.
The Georgian delegation will be represented by four athletes this year: this will be the fourth Olympiad for Iason Abramishvili, who will compete in Alpine Ski. Georgian alpine skier Nino Tsiklauri will participate in the Olympic Games for the third time. Debutantes are the figure skater Moris Kvitelashvili and Giorgi Soghoyan in luge sport discipline.
Public Broadcaster will exclusively provide live transmission of competitions of Winter Olympic Games from 05:00 to 19:00 Tbilisi Time from Pyeongchang. In addition, the First Channel will broadcast a special program twice a day, which will be dedicated to the Olympic Games. First Channel crew is in Korea, which will provide the audience with the latest news through social media and TV broadcast regularly.
