Scientists unanimously recognized that winery spread to the world from the territory of Georgia – Levan Davitashvili, Agriculture Minister stated during the joint press conference held together with Davit Lortkipanidze, Director of National Museum and Tinatin Kezeli, President of Georgian Association of Wine Producers.
On November 13, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS), official scientific journal of the National Academy of Sciences, published results of chemical analysis based on which tribes residing across Georgia’s territory began wine-making 8 thousand years ago. Wine jars and pottery were discovered in antique villages 50 kilometers away from Tbilisi.
Georgian, Canadian, American, French and Italian scientists are the authors of the article published in PNAS.
