The World Bank Group has awarded the Georgian Competition and Consumer Agency (GCCA) for its outstanding efforts in safeguarding consumer rights, effectively reviewing complaints, and upholding high enforcement standards.
Irakli Lekvinadze, the Chairman of the GCCA, attended the award ceremony held in Washington on September 27.
This honour acknowledges the significant progress made in enhancing the legal framework for consumer protection in Georgia, as well as the incorporation of international best practices and European standards.
At the invitation of the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network (ICPEN) and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Irakli Lekvinadze participated in a conference that brought together leaders from various institutions dedicated to consumer rights protection.
In 2022, the Georgian Parliament enacted the Law on Protection of Consumer Rights, designating the Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (GCCA) as the executive authority responsible for implementation. Since 2023, the GCCA has also joined forces with the ICPEN, which comprises member organizations and institutions from over 80 countries.
