Vice-Speaker: No tolerance for corruption that undermines state foundations
“Corruption should not be concealed, as was done by the previous government, but must be addressed openly and transparently, along with the measures being taken,” said the First Vice-Speaker of Parliament, Gia Volski.
According to Volski, the state’s response to corruption will be firm and uncompromising.
“We do not expect corruption to spread further within state institutions, but we will not tolerate it. Corruption undermines the very foundations of the state. Georgian society is well aware that the country holds high international ratings in anti-corruption efforts, even ahead of many EU member states. It is crucial to maintain this standing—not just for the sake of the rating, but to preserve the state’s stability. Strictness is necessary, but so is justice,” Volski stated.
The State Security Service of Georgia (SSSG) arrested former Deputy Defense Minister, the former head of the Ministry’s Procurement Department, and a close relative of Juansher Burchuladze [former Defense Minister].
According to the SSSG, the case involves the alleged embezzlement of a large sum of money from the Ministry of Defense in 2023 by a group acting with prior agreement and abusing official positions.
