Vice-Speaker labels assuming budget funds while boycotting parliament as abuse of system

“We believe that people should receive funding from the state budget proportional to the support they receive from society,” declared Gia Volski, First Vice-Speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

According to Volski, this system is being abused, and the funding rules need to be discussed.

“You received this support to work in Parliament. It’s an abuse of the rules intended for normal, European-style relations when you mechanically resolve the issue by continuing to receive budget funds despite being elected but not attending Parliament. Using these funds while not working where you should be working according to the voters’ will already call into question whether you deserve any budget funds at all. Especially if you’re neglecting work and engaging in sabotage. I don’t know how this will be resolved, but this topic probably needs to be discussed from this angle. Neither by logic nor by rule and law should a person receive budget funds that were allocated for performing specific tasks. This is a simple formula,” noted Volski.
