Vice-Speaker: Every aspect of EP resolution undermines Georgia's national interests
Gia Volski, the First Vice-Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, has criticized a draft resolution prepared by 14 members of the European Parliament (MEPs), asserting that its contents undermine Georgia’s national interests.
“Every aspect of this resolution, from the call for Saakashvili’s release to the inclusion of the LGBT law issue, undermines our national interests. Bidzina Ivanishvili has not taken any actions that contradict Georgia’s interests, nor has the government under his leadership. In contrast, Saakashvili not only acted against the nation’s interests but also contributed to the occupation of our territories, thereby enhancing Russia’s military and economic position in the South Caucasus,” Volski stated.
The draft resolution, titled “On Democratic Backsliding and Threats to Political Pluralism in Georgia,” calls for sanctions against Russia as well as sanctions targeting Ivanishvili and other individuals, the release of Saakashvili, and the repeal of the Family Values Law.
