Ursula von der Leyen calls enlargement 'investment in stability, security, prosperity of continent'
Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the EU Commission on Friday said “Enlargement is an investment in the stability, security and prosperity of our continent.”
The president called “Yesterday’s decision a landmark in our common history ”
“We have decided to open accession negotiations with Ukraine and with Moldova. We have decided to grant Georgia candidate country status. We have decided to open accession negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina once the necessary degree of compliance with membership criteria is achieved.
Yesterday’s decisions showed that the European Union is living up to its promise. The reasons for enlargement today have never been stronger and more compelling in a world that is shaken by multiple crises.
It’s an investment in stability, it’s an investment in the security of our continent, and of course, it is also an investment in the prosperity of our continent, and it’s a big investment in democracies,” she stated at the EUCO press conference.
