UNM's Sopo Japaridze claims GD fears to release Saakashvili

“The chronology of actions taken against Mikheil Saakashvili once again convinces us that Russia stands behind all this and Ivanishvili (GD founder and Honorable Chairman) thoroughly fulfils the task. Ivanishvili is afraid of releasing Mikheil Saakashvili and knows well that his liberation means our country’s European development,” said Sopo Japaridze, Head of the Tbilisi Organization of the United National Movement (UNM) party.

“On August 2, the newly-appointed so-called judge Mikheil Jinjolia unlawfully imposed preliminary imprisonment to Mikheil Saakashvili in the case of crossing the state border. The judge explained the decision by saying there was a threat of pressuring witnesses and committing another crime, which is absurd.

Mikheil Saakashvili is deprived of the right to communicate with witnesses and MPs. This is an unprecedented case when the convict is imposed imprisonment again. There is no second case like this in our country. And now, for unknown reasons, Saakakashvili has been transferred to another ward and this causes questions.

The chronology of actions taken against Mikheil Saakashvili once again convinces us that Russia stands behind all this and Ivanishvili thoroughly fulfils the task. If the GD is afraid of someone or something, this is free Mikheil Saakashvili, an example of what Georgia can reach when united. They know that Mikheil Saakashvili managed to unite the people and make Georgia a region leader when the country was in desperate conditions deep in corruption, criminality and poverty.

The Georgian Dream cannot forgive Saakashvili for that. They know Saakashvili’s freedom means more investments, jobs, higher wages, low prices in Georgia and, most importantly, our country’s European development,” Sopo Japaridze said.
