UNM Ugulava proposes Zourabichvili as PM nominee for transitional government saying 'only she can consolidate initiative'
“Despite my critical stance towards Salome Zourabichvili, she currently possesses significant ‘political momentum’. In these turbulent times, we should aim to navigate this period with reduced instability, take the initiative and consolidated power out of Ivanishvili’s hands and overthrow the regime,” wrote Gigi Ugulava, a member of the National Movement, on social media.
“The situation is straightforward: the initiative can either rest with the Kots [Georgian Dream], which would be disastrous for the country, including for Misha[ex-President Saakashvili], or it can be in the hands of the opposition. While the opposition has a clear numerical advantage, there is a risk that indecision and ambiguity could hinder our momentum toward victory. In this context, only Salome Zourabichvili can effectively consolidate the initiative.
Therefore, I propose that she be nominated as the prime ministerial candidate for the transitional government formed by the charter-signing opposition. This move will prevent any hesitation on election night. By doing so, we can ensure that the victorious opposition can formally declare their win by 8:30 on October 26 and secure swift international legitimacy. This approach would facilitate a peaceful and painless collapse of the regime and, importantly, help us avoid a cycle of political revenge.
In this scenario, Mikheil Saakashvili would be free, and able to actively participate in the life of his country. Under Salome Zourabichvili’s leadership, a professional government would serve a transitional role, fulfilling the charter’s requirements, guiding the country back onto the EU path, and preparing for free elections,” he stated.
