UNM proposes conducting plebiscite on transparency bill

Levan Khabeishvili, the chairman of the opposition United National Movement party, has proposed conducting a plebiscite alongside the elections to allow the people to peacefully determine the fate of the draft law “On transparency of foreign influence”.

“Currently, we are witnessing tens of thousands of Georgian citizens taking to the streets in peaceful protest against the Russian law. Regardless of political affiliation, it is essential for Georgia’s European future that every citizen engages in this activity to counter those who seek to perpetrate violence against our people.
We have proposed to Ivanishvili’s government that this issue be resolved through peaceful means. Therefore, if a plebiscite on this bill were conducted alongside the elections, it would offer the most peaceful resolution,” he stated.
