UNM, police clash in Batumi City Council

Batumi City Council members from United National Movement (UNM) opposition party have brawled with police after the latter did not let them in Batumi Mayor’s office.

After being barred from entering the Mayor’s office, UNM members occupied the conference hall, but police pulled them out by force, which turned into a skirmish. The opposition members remain at the City Council building.

Batumi Mayor Archil Chikovani is not present in the office, but his press service released his video message, saying “the meeting with the opposition is not an issue.”

“The circus performances and the daily destruction to disrupt the daily activities of the Batumi Municipality are unacceptable,” Chikovani stressed.
