UNM demands criminal inquiry into Shovi tragedy, accuses high-ranking officials

The opposition United National Movement (UNM) party has called for investigative bodies to launch an inquiry into the alleged criminal indifference of high-ranking political officials, including Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri, and Minister of Economy Levan Davitashvili, concerning the Shovi tragedy.

Levan Khabeishvili, Lasha Parulava, Giorgi Vashadze, and Paata Manjgaladze, held the press conference on Monday.

UNM Chair Levan Khabeishvili asserted that the Shovi tragedy was a result of criminal inaction, indifference, and corrupt interests within the ruling Georgian Dream party. He claimed that Prime Minister Garibashvili and Interior Minister Gomelauri were the primary offenders responsible for the failed search and rescue operation.

UNM urged investigative authorities to initiate an inquiry into the alleged criminal negligence of the aforementioned high-ranking officials.
