UNM Chair’s lawyers demand recusal of judge

Lawyers of Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, demand recusal of the Tbilisi City Court’s judge Nino Chakhnashvili.

They claim that the special ops are mobilized at the UNM central office that means that the court decision about Melia’s imprisonment is already made.

“You do not make the decision but merely voice it. The government does not respect you. It does not want to wait for the decision. This circumstance distrusts your independence,” lawyers addressed the judge.

The trial of Nika Melia, Chairman of the opposition United National Movement (UNM) party, is underway at Tbilisi City Court. The judge now broke to deliberate. Representatives of opposition parties are gathered at the UNM central office waiting for the court decision.
